The room was dingy and windowless, lit by a single oil lamp dangling from the low ceiling. A faint smell of fried fish lingered about the place.

Wooden filing cabinets stood around the walls; from their labels, Harry could see that they contained details of every pupil Filch had ever punished.

Fred and George Weasley had an entire drawer to themselves.

Highly polished chains and manacles hung on the wall behind Filch’s desk so they were ready. It was common knowledge that he was always begging Dumbledore to let him suspend students loosely by their ankles from the ceiling. Ugh!

Parts of speech defined

  1. Noun — names persons, things, animals, places, ideas or events.
    Examples: dog, boy, restaurant.
  2. Adjective — describes a noun or a pronoun. Adjectives can specify the quality, the size and the number of nouns or pronouns.
    Examples: sparkling, antique, fragrant.
  3. Verb — expresses an action (physical or mental) or state of being of the subject in a sentence.
    Examples: jump, ponder, was.
  4. Adverb — modifies or describes a verb, an adjective or another adverb.
    Examples: quickly, seldom, rudely.
  5. Conjunction — joins words, phrases, or clauses.
    Examples: although, but, because.
  6. Interjection — a word used to express emotion.
    Examples: ahem, eh, oops.
  7. Pronoun — a word used in place of a noun. Examples: you, ours, these.
  8. Preposition — usually used in front of a noun or pronoun to show the relationship between the noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence.
    Examples: in, over, during.
